(in Polish) History of the media - part 1 DIKS-CMS-SL>HistMed
The first part of this course explores the historical evolution of media from oral traditions, through cave painting, discovery of script and early written communication (eg. Hieroglyphs, Cuneiform, Phoenician alphabet etc.), medieval manuscripts, and the Printing Revolution of Gutenberg to The Birth of the first forms of Mass Media (newspapers and magazines). Students will examine how different forms of media have shaped and been shaped by cultural, political, and technological changes over time of human history in different civilizations. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of media’s role in society and its impact on communication.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Identify and describe key milestones in the history of media.
2. Analyze the cultural and technological influences on media development.
3. Evaluate the impact of media on society and communication practices throughout the history.
Assessment criteria
Oral exam at the end of course.
Attendance: Regular attendance is expected. More than three unexcused absences may impact your final grade.
Academic Integrity: Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.
Late Assignments: Late submissions will be penalized unless prior arrangements are made.
Participation: Active engagement in discussions and activities is encouraged and rewarded.
Practical placement
Students are encouraged to engage with media outside of class through the organized by teacher or private outings.
Analyzing the potential of Krakow with its Museums as a case study in order to better comprehend the mechanism of history of the media.
Guest lectures and media screenings may be scheduled throughout the semester.
