The aim of the classes is to introduce media literacy. Students will be introduced to selected issues in the field of the history of media education, dissemination activities and various paths of its implementation. Part of the classes will be devoted to discussing examples of good practices implemented through formal and informal education.
1. The course topics introduction. Basic concepts of media literacy.
2. The beginnings and development of media education.
3. The history of media literacy.
4. Psychological aspects of media use.
5. Activities promoting media education (UNESCO, EC, national institutions).
6. Model approaches to media competences. Competence catalogues. European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp).
7. Evaluating information. Practice evaluating a webpage
8. Critical analysis of media messages: advertising,
9. Critical analysis of media messages: propaganda, misinformation, disinformation. Verification tools. Tackling hate speech.
10. Counteracting disinformation - presentation of examples of projects and teaching methods.
11. Media education for the youngest – conditions and needs.
12. Media education for the youngest - examples of educational activities.
13. Digital and media competences of seniors.
14. Algorithms and AI – how do they affect our everyday lives. Algorithmic literacy
15. Examples of good practices in the field of media education implemented through formal and informal education.
