Learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge in the following areas: the process and stages of the formation of Polish communities abroad; the history and presence of Polish-language media in particular countries of the world and the issues they deal with; the role of the Polish media in the diaspora in shaping civic community and social bonds, in the integration of the Polish community abroad, in the consolidation of identity and preservation of connection with the national cultural heritage, in intercultural dialogue; discourse in the media of the Polish diaspora.
Students will be able to: define the complexity and multilayered nature of the following terms: Polonia (Polish diaspora), Poles in the East, diaspora, political and economic emigration, exile; present the fortunes of Poles in particular countries; define the process of the formation of the Polish media; make a comparative analysis of the media of the Polish diaspora in different countries; present a discourse concerning the role, aims and tasks of the Polish media; define the specificity of the media of the Polish diaspora in particular countries.
Students will be ready to actively participate in the social debate about the Polish community and the media of the Polish diaspora.
Assessment criteria
Methods: problem lecture, conversational lecture, lecture with multimedia presentation, case analysis, discussion.
Credit based on attendance (at least 10 classes) and a presentation on media of the Polish diaspora in selected countries from a comparative aspect. Assessment criteria: the extent to which the topic has been fully treated, the accuracy of content, original nature of the proposed solutions, and style of the presentation.
