Historic Building - Process of Investment and Adaptation ODK-SM>obzab1(01)
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the complex subject of the process of investment and adaptation of historic buildings. Discussed
issues of current legislation, ownership of the monument, selection of the future function. Students will be acquainted with the issues of
Adaptation of historic buildings to modern functions, in the context of the requirements of the Building Law and checking institutions:
Fire Department, Sanitary and Epidemiological Station or Health and Safety inspection. The basic
conditions for carrying out the adaptation of the building in such a way as to emphasize its historical value and preserve its value, while at the same time
meeting modern standards. The role of research (archaeological, architectural, source searches, etc.) will be emphasized.
preceding the design stage, the duties of the designer (getting acquainted with the research and historical documentation, correct
reading of investor's intentions). Relationships between the Investor - Conservator - Contractor will be indicated. Separately discussed
will be discussed the possibility of obtaining external sources of funding for the work carried out at the monument. The activities include
training excursions to selected objects, meetings with investors, designers and researchers.

The student acquires an in-depth knowledge of the multifaceted protection of cultural property.
The student acquires knowledge of the possibilities of combining various fields of science and knowledge in the process of investment and adaptation of historical objects
to contemporary needs.
The student acquires workshop skills to combine and organize the work of interdisciplinary teams for the protection of
cultural property.
Assessment criteria
Graded credit.
Attendance at classes, familiarization with the canon of readings, preparation and delivery of a presentation on the adaptation of the object
historic object to modern needs.
