The following topics will be covered during the course:
1. Introduction to forensic and penitentiary psychology: basic definitions, concepts, and assumptions.
2. Sociological and psychological theories of deviance and criminality.
3. The relationship between forensic psychology and law: mutual interdependencies.
4. Mental disorders in offenders of criminal acts.
5. Working with children and juvenile victims of sexual abuse.
6. Expert opinions – psychological diagnosis.
7. The psychological and social dimensions of imprisonment: retribution and rehabilitation.
8. Psychological mechanisms of the prisonization process.
9. The reliability of witness testimony: cognitive processes.
10. Ethical aspects of forensic psychology.
11. Selected aspects of forensic and penitentiary psychology.

Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE:
1. The student knows and defines the basic issues in forensic and penitentiary psychology.
2. The student understands the work of forensic and penitentiary psychologists and is familiar with the basic principles of forensic evaluation. They also understand the psychological mechanisms of functioning of inmates in conditions of penitentiary isolation.
SKILLS:
1. The student is able to explain the work of a penitentiary psychologist, understands the mechanisms of prisonization, and the factors involved in victimization.
2. The student can explain the psychological situation of individuals incarcerated in a penitentiary institution.
COMPETENCIES:
1. The student demonstrates sensitivity and understanding towards individuals in penitentiary isolation.
2. The student is able to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams involved in penitentiary rehabilitation. They can read and comprehend reports prepared by forensic psychologists.
Assessment criteria
1. Test assessment, including open descriptive questions (related to the lecture)
2. Conceptual work during exercises
3. Attendance (up to 2 absences allowed; additional absences must be made up, but the total number of absences cannot exceed 30% of all hours, otherwise the student will be removed from the course)
4. Preparation and presentation of a topic during class, along with moderating the discussion (exercises)
