(in Polish) Przygotowanie artykułu naukowego SzD-DH>Przart(1)
The course is designed to provide doctoral students with comprehensive preparation for the independent production of advanced academic writing and for active participation in both national and international scholarly communication, with particular emphasis on the specific nature of historical research. During the course, participants develop skills in constructing a wide range of academic texts, including abstracts and conference proposals, scholarly reviews, analytical essays, original research articles, review papers, popular science articles, as well as selected components of the doctoral dissertation. Special emphasis is placed on preparing research articles that meet the editorial standards of national and international academic journals and on developing competencies related to the publication process.
The course offers a detailed discussion of the structure of academic texts, including the formulation of research problems and objectives, the construction of introductions and literature reviews, the selection and justification of appropriate methodologies in historical research, the presentation of research results, the development of scholarly discussion, and the formulation of conclusions. Particular attention is given to the development of skills in critical source analysis, the proper use of primary and secondary sources, and the positioning of one’s own research within both Polish and international historiography. Doctoral students are also introduced to the principles of preparing scholarly apparatus, including citation practices and the compilation of bibliographies in accordance with various referencing styles.
The programme also addresses the use of tools supporting the academic writing process, such as reference management software, data analysis and visualization tools, and methods for organizing research work. An important component of the course concerns ethical issues related to academic research and publishing, including principles of academic integrity, plagiarism prevention, authorship responsibility, and the functioning of the peer-review system.
The course also introduces the scholarly monograph as a significant form of academic output, particularly in the field of history. The monograph is presented as an extensive, original research-based work with a coherent structure, including an introduction, analytical chapters, conclusions, and references, aimed at providing a comprehensive examination of a specific research problem and contributing new knowledge to the field. Attention is given to its role in the doctoral degree process and in further academic career development.
The course is completed upon the preparation of an original research article based on the doctoral student’s own work and its submission to a selected academic journal.
