Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
Possesses basic knowledge of the liturgy of the Byzantine Rite: places and objects of worship, as well as the structure and content of the Divine Liturgy. K_W01
Knows and understands the subject literature (both Polish and foreign) as well as the methodology of liturgical studies. K_W02
Skills:
Ability to compare the Eastern and Western rites: rituals, theological, cultural, and mentality-related differences. K_U01
Development of an attitude of tolerance toward representatives of the Eastern Churches and recognition of the richness of various liturgical traditions expressing the same mystery of salvation in different ways. K_U02, K_U03
Acquisition of awareness of the multicultural character of Christianity. K_U06
Social competences:
Able to explain to others the rules of conduct in an Eastern church and the meaning of the basic elements of the Byzantine liturgy. K_K01
Able to formulate the subject of one’s own research in the field of Eastern liturgy and to conduct such research for the benefit of the development of liturgical studies as an academic discipline. K_K02, K_K06
Prepared to conduct ecumenical meetings between representatives of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. K_K05
Assessment criteria
Expository methods (informative lecture, problem-based lecture, storytelling);
Inquiry-based methods (self-study):
problem-solving methods (classical problem method, situational method),
reading of recommended books,
independent selection of the topic for the semester paper.
Activating methods:
discussion,
group work,
asking questions.
Expository/illustrative methods (drawings, illustrations, Orthodox church music, visit to a Greek Catholic church).
Assessment criteria:
ongoing assessment of students’ activity during lectures (level of interest, participation in discussion),
writing a paper on a selected topic related to the Divine Liturgy of the Byzantine-Slavonic Rite, upon prior consultation with the lecturer — to be submitted three weeks before the completion of the lecture course.
