The lecture will be divided into three thematic parts according to the following scheme:
I. Introductory issues
1. programme and organisation of the class, bibliography.
2. Preliminaries of patristics - part 1: terminological issues
2.1 Basic terminology (basic concepts and divisions of the patristic period of dogmatic history: patristics, patrology, patristic periods, Fathers of the Church).
2.2 Specific terminology (synods, councils, emperors, patriarchates).
3 Patrological preliminaries part 2 - sources and linguistic issues.
3.1 Sources of patrological and patristic knowledge (codes, canons, historical and contemporary foreign and Polish-language patristic series and publications)
3.2 The division between the Latin and Greek Fathers (Western and Eastern).
3.3. Basic linguistic information on Greek and Latin (origins and characters of the alphabet, alphanumeric values, rules for reading some symbolic notations, Christograms and acronyms).
4 Chronology of the First Patristic Period (i.e. up to 381).
4.1 Chronological table of the Eastern Fathers.
4.2 Chronological table of the Western Fathers.

Assessment criteria
Attendance at exercises is compulsory. The main criterion for assessment is the result of the final examination.The assessment includes:
- credit for the map
- in-class colloquia covering knowledge of the last lecture and the text studied
a final colloquium
an exam to test your ability to use the material.
