Professional status:

The graduate is prepared to work in such institutions as: district family support centres, crisis intervention centres and social welfare centres, as well as to work with foster families, in care and educational centres, in social welfare homes for the elderly and mentally and physically disabled people, in organisational units for employment and counteracting unemployment, in support centres, in facilities for the homeless, addicts, in penal institutions, in centres for refugees and migrants and in non-governmental organisations dealing with diagnosing and counteracting the above mentioned problems, especially in situations of crisis, prison facilities, in centres for refugees and migrants and in non-governmental organisations dealing with diagnosing and counteracting the aforementioned problems, especially in situations of crisis. The acquired skills were confirmed by an independently prepared and implemented social project.

Annex 2 to Resolution 129/2019 of the Senate of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow of 23 September 2019 on adapting the study programme for the field of study Social Work in second-cycle programme with a practical profile to the requirements of the Law on Higher Education and Science.

Upon the completion of the second-cycle programme of studies in the field of social work, in terms of knowledge, the graduate:
- has extended knowledge about a human being - their psychological, social and spiritual development and cultural environment, being their socialization context understood as a source of social problems and, at the same time, a resource enabling to solve them;
- has in-depth knowledge about structure and organization of social welfare system, main institutions serving realization of social policy and in-depth knowledge about functioning of those areas of institutions, where social workers are employed;
- knows, understands and complies with the rules of professional ethics, including principles of industrial property management, copyright law and forms of individual entrepreneurship;
- has extended knowledge about the essence, aims and methods of social work and its ontological, epistemological and axiological foundations, as well as the location of social work in the system of social sciences and its relation to other sciences;
- has in-depth knowledge of selected methods and techniques of social problems research and knows how to effectively select the methods in order to solve the research problems, knows how to plan and carry out quantitative and qualitative empirical research in order to recognize the problem and make social diagnosis;
- has in-depth knowledge on processes underlying stability and change of structures, institutions and supportive ties, as well as their practical applications, knows mechanisms and regularities governing these changes;
- knows mechanisms and regularities governing these changes; knows general principles of creating and developing forms of individual entrepreneurship, using knowledge from the scope of social sciences, with special consideration of social work.
Upon completion of the second-cycle programme of studies in the field of social work, in terms of skills, the graduate:
- can correctly interpret and explain social phenomena (political, cultural, economic) and relations between them using the concepts and theories of social work;
- can apply theoretical knowledge to description and practical analysis of causes and course of concrete social processes and phenomena, can formulate their own opinions, make hypotheses and critically select data and analysis methods;
- has extensive skills of observing, diagnosing, rationally assessing complex social situations and implements the assumptions of support strategies skilfully using the resources of the social environment
- has the ability to use the acquired knowledge in various scopes and forms, expanded by critical analysis of the effectiveness and usefulness of the applied knowledge and skills acquired during the professional practice;
- effectively uses normative systems in practical applications to solve specific social problems;
- has the ability to propose activities aimed at resolving specific social problems and to take action in this respect
- the ability to understand and analyse social phenomena extended by the ability of thorough theoretical assessment of these phenomena using appropriate research method;
- the ability to forecast and model complex social processes and their practical effects, covering phenomena from different areas of social life, using advanced methods and tools of social work
- is able to manage the work of a team, knows how to set objectives of the activity; in their aid activities they use innovative solutions, thus appropriately build their own professional competences;
- undertakes activities aimed at improving the living situation of persons displaying behaviours, e.g in order to counteract exclusion and marginalization;
- has thorough abilities to prepare typical written works and oral presentations in Polish and a foreign language, concerning detailed issues, using basic theoretical approaches and various sources from the area of social sciences;
- has language skills in the fields of science and scientific disciplines specific to their field of study complying with the requirements of the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- has the ability to propose activities aimed at solving particular social problems and to take action in this scope, using social programmes and projects.
Upon completion of the second-cycle programme of studies in the field of social work, in terms of social competences, the graduate:
- understands the need for continuous learning and improvement of their social and professional skills with the use of modern means and methods; can inspire and organize the learning process of others;
- is able to: 1) work in a team assuming various roles, 2) create intergroup cooperation networks, 3) communicate on the level of micro-, meso- and macro- environment using various, including ICT, communication channels;
- is able to plan social activities, identify and solve normative dilemmas related to the support area, including social work;
- in the area of promotion, prevention, education, counselling, assistance and managerial activities, thinks and acts in an entrepreneurial way
- can independently and critically complement their knowledge and skills with an interdisciplinary dimension;
- can engage in preparation and implementation of social projects; is able to predict multidirectional consequences of their activity.
