The aim of the lecture is to present and discuss basic problem areas of philosophy of science, specifically natural sciences. The discussed problems include the problem of induction and inductivism, problem of falsification, problem of scientific revolutions and rationality of science, problems of scientific realism, undertermination, explanation and inference, and further problems with scientific realism. The lecture will also present specific topics such as Reduction, Emergence and Explanation, Evolution; Molecular and Developmental Biology; Cognitive Science; Social Sciences |

Efekty kształcenia
As a result of the lecture the student:
EK_1. A student will gain an understanding basic problem areas of philosophy of science, main controversies and positions.
EK_2. A student will be familiar with main definitions and concepts in philosophy of science.
EK_3. A student can explain main problem areas of philosophy of science,
EK_4. A student will learn how to write and abstract for the conference, create presentation and present it to the audience.
EK_5. The student will be able to explain main problem areas of philosophy of science, main controversies and proposed solutions
Kryteria oceniania
Ocena przedmiotu bedzie oparta na nastepujacych kryteriach
(W_1) Grading submitted three abstracts 200-300 words; on the topic of the lectures (3 x20%) - 60%- April/May/June
Two short papers – on the discussed topics 600- 800 words (2x 10%) mid-term, and end of term
Take–home exam with 10 short answers - 15%- midterm
Penalty for the late work – 5% of the grade
Student's activity during the class as well the discussion of the paper may raise one's grade.- 5%
Attendance is mandatory: Pass mark is 60%
Grade: 60%≤3; 70%≤ 3.5;80%≤4;90%≤4.5;95%≤5% out of 100% max
