The student knows the characteristics of political philosophy, its basic issues and trends. During classes, issues of individual trends, concepts in the field of political philosophy, state and law are discussed. Issues regarding democracy as a system of socio-political governance are also raised.
Course content:
1. Political philosophy - range of issues and general characteristics
2. Five classic categories of political philosophy: man, society, property, power, state
3. Philosophers and politics - various concepts of state, power and property
4. Politics. Post politics and anti-policy
5. Two visions of a man, two models of looking at politics; cooperation and conflict
6. Build an identity through having an enemy. Carl Schmitt again
7. Political and non-political spheres of human life: the political and public sphere. Religion in the public sphere and confusion of the spheres
8. Natural law, human rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights
9. Justice and its types (spheres of justice, justice as equity)
10. Concepts of freedom (negative and positive freedom). Equality in politics, equal opportunities and parities.
11. Equality as a binder of the state. Equal distribution of resources (R. Dworkin)
12. Political community (communitarianism - communism - liberalism - libertarianism)
13. Anarchist and socialist ideas, utopian socialists. Contemporary liberalism and neoliberalism, conservatism, feminism.
14. Democracy and its borders. Principles of democracy. The idea of multiculturalism and political correctness. Tolerance as a relational value
15. Clash of civilizations, fundamentalism and the "end of history". The problem of terrorism and consumer society ("more is better", redefinition of values, a world in which everything can be bought - M. Sandel and moral philosophy of the market)
